One Moore shot: Ryan Moore claims British Open spot with final round 65

Ryan Moore didn’t leave with the trophy he was hoping for on Sunday, but he did walk away with something else — and that’s a spot in the British Open at St. Andrews.

While Justin Rose was celebrating his second win of the year, Moore was celebrating his ability to make clutch putts. His par putt on the 18th hole allowed him to beat out Jeff Overton for the final spot in field at St. Andrews.

I know Moore still has a couple of weeks to let this set in but if he does find a way to win the British, I’m fairly certain he’ll look back on back nine 32 at the AT&T National as the turning point. If anything, Moore at least get the opportunity to travel and play at one the game’s great courses.

Based on the way he’s been playing recently (T-5, T-13 and 2nd in three of his last four events), it wouldn’t be a stretch to put Moore on the list of hopefuls with a legitimate shot at walking away with the Claret Jug in a couple weeks’ time.
