The PGA Tour should consider paging Tiger Woods

Commissioner Gordon had the Bat-Signal whenever he had a problem that needed fixing in Gotham City; it’s just too bad Tim Finchem doesn’t have the same option because If he did, he’d be throwing up his Tiger-Signal right now.

While Tiger hasn’t been back to Riviera since 2006, when he withdrew after the second round, there was talk that he may return this year after a long hiatus. The fact that he was a huge Lakers fan, coupled with the appointment of Jerry West as executive director of the tournament was supposed to put the ball in Woods court to pass on such an opportunity to come back.

We all know what happened next. The tournament never even had a chance to land Woods after his transgressions forced him to put golf on the back burner. While it would have been impossible get Woods this year, the tournament did boast a field that included Anthony Kim, Phil Mickelson and Steve Stricker, all big names in their own right.

Like many expected, fan interest has been lower to begin the year; but if you wanted an idea of just how bad it was, you needn’t look any further than the Northern Trust, a tournament that I’m not sure even Tiger Woods could have saved this year.

Case in point: how about some photos from Geoff Shackelford, who apparently was out at the event this past week. The photos on his site were, to put it nicely, beyond shocking. Read the rest of this entry »
