It’s Official: The Greenbrier is part of the 2010 tour schedule

After last week’s final tour stop in Michigan, many wondered aloud if the PGA would come up with a new sponsor and course to keep the event in state for the coming years. While today’s new might not be the final nail in Michigan’s coffin, it did go a long way to shedding some light on where the tour hopes to go in the near future.

The Buick Open’s spot on the tour schedule went from being “TBD” to the home of a soon-to-be sponsored event at the Greenbrier Resort in West Virginia. The event will be played in the old Buick Open slot (July 26-Aug. 1) on the resort’s Old White Course.

The Greenbrier, a throwback retreat that was at one time near extinction, is now on the verge of a major comeback thanks in large part to Jim Justice, the new owner, who paid $30 million to save the iconic American resort. Read the rest of this entry »
