Dustin Johnson only needs 54 holes to claim Pebble Beach Pro-Am
How about we just play 54 holes? That’s what Tim Finchem probably said after he took a look at the carnage at Pebble Beach just a day after a storm ripped through the Monterey Peninsula.
Instead of completing the final 18 on Monday, the tour decided it was better to call the event after 54 than play it six months from now, or later in the week. Smart move by the tour. Judging by all the late finishes at the AT&T, it wouldn’t have made much sense to risk it and lose most or all of the field to the Northern Trust at Riviera.
So Dustin Johnson, the leader after 54 holes, is your champion. The win is his second on tour after winning last season at Turning Stone Resort. The win also has special significance, as it gets Johnson into The Master and the US Open.
