OK, so they don’t tell all; but they definitely do tell you enough to paint a picture of what the tour is really like. Here are a couple of my favorites from the March issue of Golf Digest.

WHO’S THE BEST CADDIE ON TOUR?
“Mine”: 46%
Steve Williams (Tiger Woods): 15%
Jim (Bones) Mackay (Phil Mickelson): 12%
OTHERS RECEIVING VOTES: Tony Navarro (Adam Scott), Fred Sanders (Kenny Perry), Brett Waldman (Ben Crane). Comment “Ain’t found him yet.”

Only 46% say their own caddie?!? That’s pretty sad. I guess there aren’t enough good caddies to go around.

MCCAIN OR OBAMA?
McCain: 71%
Obama: 29%
(ASKED PRIOR TO THE NOV. 4 ELECTION)

I’d love to know what Obama’s approval rating is right now on tour. Then I’d love for Digest to do a follow-up in four years to see where everyone’s at.

WHICH PLAYER OVERACHIEVED MOST IN THE MARRIAGE DEPARTMENT?
Jim Furyk: 17%
Phil Mickelson: 13%
“All of us!”: 13%
Eric Axley: 8%
Parker McLachlin: 8%
Tiger Woods: 8%
OTHERS RECEIVING VOTES: Stephen Ames, Aaron Baddeley, Mark Calcavecchia, Bob Estes, Steve Lowery, John Rollins
COMMENTS: “The greatest overachiever is Dean Wilson, and all the women he blows through.” … “Furyk might be married to Joe the Plumber’s sister if he weren’t a professional golfer.” …”Tiger? He has nothing going for him, and he got that girl?”

What a great question. I love the comment at the bottom from an unknown tour pro, “Furyk might be married to Joe the Plumber’s sister if he weren’t a professional golfer.” …”Tiger? He has nothing going for him, and he got that girl?” That, my friends, is a classic quote. I sense a new nickname for Furyk, and it’s, Jim “Joe the Plumber’s brother-in-law” Furyk. It has a nice ring to it…
